Where did ionike come from?

While these three were trying to make sense of the

Music that was already on the table the  search

for a drummer began. The process took a good long

while. They got to meet some great, talented musicians

but nothing felt right. After a few months of a running

joke from Denman saying he wanted to play air drums

for Ionike (they had no real ones) They found a set on

craigslist and the joke turned into reality. Denman put

down the bass guitar and went to pick up the sticks.

Ionike had found their drummer.

Beginnings :

In the year 2011, guitarists Fruge'

and Holmes had just stopped

playing some interesting music

with some talented people in a

band that had a great run for

about 4 years. But with no more touring, and no more shows, also meant no more music. They had to fix this problem quickly and started getting together at Holmes' house to just sit down and see what they could do with a RAT, some delay pedals and a couple of hollow bodied telecasters. The sound was some kind of cross between drony space rock and sludgy doom metal.

By the time 2012 rolled around, Holmes and Fruge' had joined forces with friend and musical renassaince guy, Denman. He had previously been in all kinds of groups ranging from pop-rock all the way to black-metal, bouncing between the roles of frontman, screamer, bassist, guitarist, and spoons. He grabbed his bass guitar and joined the other two in the small wood-paneled room at Holmes' house. and the three began to add some guts to the skeletons that the guitarists had been piecing together for months now.

Now a new search was on. They needed to fill in the low end.

While all of this practicing was happening at the house, just one room away was Holmes' roomate, Dozier, in the living room. He heard just about every single practice. And During the Spring/Summer of 2012 another running joke got started. "Dozier why dont you just come in here fill in till we find somebody?" "Naw man ya'll suck." was always the response. But after  a couple of months the answer changed. Dozier stepped in and brought with him a whole new plethora of layers to an already insane mix of sounds involved. It was the missing ingredient.
